The Big Apple - Gelatin Pioneer Style (Liz Hickok)

Close up of Psychogeography of New York City, by Liz Hickok (photo by Kerry, a friend of the artist)

I was thrilled when I came across San Francisco based artist Liz Hickok and her dazzling gelatin cityscapes quite by accident, while searching (unsuccessfully) for instructions on making custom molds.  Although still clueless on the custom mold issue, I consider the expedition to be a success - who wouldn't after spending a little time on the Liz Hickok website?!!

Liz's latest installation, Mapping the Psychogeography of New York City (close up above) just opened on September 24, 2010 and will be on display at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery through November 6, 2010.   I hope to update this post with additional photos of this installation when available - it looks to be a stunner!

Until then, allow yourself to be amazed and delighted by Liz's impressive existing body of work.  San Francisco, in Jell-o! (As an often homesick former resident of SF, the images of this city are my absolute favorites of the portfolio . . .  the Telegraph Hill Earthquake video is particularly haunting and beautiful.)  There is much to marvel over. . .   The White House, in Jell-o!  Godzilla Eats Scottsdale!   Enjoy . . .

Memorial Day Musings . . .

White Wine Sangria beckons . . .

We stole a quiet moment over the long weekend to reflect on the next candidates for gelatinization.  Hmmmm, something summery, light and fruity . . .

To aid in our mental gymnastics, Amy (JSTK Annie) had prepared a beautiful white wine sangria with lots of sumptuous fruit (and a shot of Cointreau!).  It was quickly apparent that White Wine Sangria would be an ideal entrant to the Halls of Gelatin.  More to come . . .

Cheers,

Michelle (JSTK Julia)

P.S.  What are your favorite summertime cocktails?

Ghosts of Jelly Shots Past

It's been a busy couple of weeks in the Halls of Gelatin - we have many noble jelly shots that haven't yet had a debut on the blog. Yesterday, in a shutter-click haze, I believe I declared myself the "Annie Liebovitz of Gelatin Cocktail Photography". It's obviously an extremely niche skill set.

I'm sorry Ms.
Liebovitz. It was a moment of self aggrandizing madness. The hot lights and glamorous setting must have gone to my head . . . on the other hand, perhaps the second sample of the Key Lime Pie Martini shot had something to do with it?

Personal insanity aside, here are three favorites from the past weeks. We'll soon have the
Flickr Photostream set up as well.

Bailey's & Coffee was a crowd favorite.

The Flirtini. Yes, that's a maraschino cherry inside the jelly shot! It looks and tastes brilliant!
